FLAT SINCE 2005
fine clothes for authentic people... a brief interview with FLAT shop founder, Leonardo... by Andrea Bolloni
Often those born in a shop predispose a special sensitivity to observation and curiosity, to visual language and to the emotional stimuli generated by what are merely called clothes.
In 2005, after years of breathing the atmosphere of the family shop and observing the dynamics of an independent reality, Flat was born. Let's discover together anecdotes and curiosities of this story.
A: Hi Leo, let's start from the roots, how was Flat born?
L: Flat was born from the ambitious dream of creating a space close to our concept of ideal container.
A streetwear clothing store that transcends the traditional concept of a store, a place to share the lifestyle with the generation that frequented the alternative club music scene in the late nineties and early 2000s. People who loved and loves clothing brands beyond the simple "item", becoming passionate about history and interpreters, identifying themselves with these brands.
Finally, there is the unfailing passion for research, for records, for clubs and, of course, for clothes, cultivated through travel and moments of sharing.
A: What role does music play in this story?
L: Music is a main character of this story, the contaminations and inspirations are many: our crew appreciates very different genres that find a meeting point in being alternative. The "dance music" matrix for us has strictly within it both post punk and black and dub coefficients; equally, "played" music has no limits: our interest is mainly oriented towards a period that goes from the 50s to the 90s, but obviously we do not disdain the contemporary, as long as it is of good quality.
Furthermore, as lovers of aesthetics, we could not fail to be struck by the clothing of the subcultures relating to the musical periods mentioned above: skinheads, mods, teddy boys, punks, rude boys, sound boys, casuals, indie rockers, every cultural movement has transmitted, with due proportions, something and we treasured it.
A: What other creative currents influence Flat's identity?
L: Beyond music there is a passion for North European design and fashion. As can be deduced from the naming chosen, "Flat" underlines the minimalist taste of simple and linear elements, typical of the areas mentioned above.
Finally, the unrivaled style of the Japanese and in general the love for the avant-garde in all its forms enjoy our admiration and every day they are a source of stimulus and desire to go further.
A: Life beyond the shop. How does Flat fit beyond the walls of the store?
L: Flat and his attitude do not stop at the shop, Flat has been influencing our travels, our movements, our ideas for years.
Our link with the daily lifestyle is strong and continuous, we are convinced that research can take place at any time, in any context.
